This restored Chateau is a wonderful example of French design and has been exquisitely renovated. Featuring over a hundred games for children and adults alike it’s a great place to spend the whole day having exploring. Be warned, lunch and wine prices here are horrendous so bring your own!

Villeréal Located at Villeréal, Aquitaine, 47210 Villereal has one of the only supermarkets in the Dordogne open on Sundays so if you’ve not quite planned your provisions efficiently then head out to here. Half an hours’ drive down the D207, a long Roman road. It also has regular Vide Greniers (car boor sales) and brocantes.
Eymet

Known for its markets and restaurants Eymet is one of the few places in the Dordogne where you can get a good Chinese meal (at Mama Chows). Ideal when the foie gras and cheese get a bit too much! The pizzeria in the square is also good for lunch al fresco.

This area of the Dordogne is spectacularly wonderful and deserves at least a day there. With boating, sight seeing, eateries and bars it really is a lovely place to hang out. Try to get there early in the height of summer as parking can be a bit tricky.

Lougratte Located at Lougratte, Aquitaine One of the Dordogne’s few inland water parks Lougratte is a fresh water lake with swimming and boating for all. Featuring kids’ climbing frames and a beach volleyball court it’s a great place to relax.
Monpazier

Famous for its perfectly preserved market square and hugely successful market Monpazier is a beautiful village set high on a hill. Full of restaurants and bars it’s a great place to unwind.
The Marqueyssac Gardens

After extensive restoration work, Marqueyssac was opened to the public in 1997. The park, designed for walking, is situated on a spur and overlooks the entire Dordogne Valley. The paths lead to the Belvedere, a fabulous balcony with an exceptional panoramic view of the Dordogne valley. There is a lovely cafe with amazing views. This is a good place to combine with Le Roque Gageac in the morning: if you arrive at lunch you can have a picnic in the grounds before entering the chateau. Every Thursday night in July and August the gardens are candlelit. One of our favourite places!

Castillonnès

Castillones has the only independent cinema in the Dordogne offering many modern and classic films often played in English (or with subtitles). “Intermaché” supermarket is open here on Sunday mornings, located on the far side of the town towards Lougratte.
Chateau Biron

Issigeac

With its packed Sunday market this beautiful medieval town only 9 kilometres away is a must see spot for any visitor to the area. Arrive early as it gets busy. Shabby Chic is a great salon du thé; look out for the sign as it is just off the main thoroughfare.
Bergerac

Full of good restaurants and modern amenities Bergerac is a cosmopolitan city worth visiting during your stay at Le Petit Capelier. Try L’imparfait for indulgent gastro, the Riverside restaurant for lunch, seek out the patisseries for macarons and pastries and cool off in the beautiful cathedral in the centre of the city; the Saturday market there is very good.
